Article 20: Clipping a broadcast clip with IDVR

Sinclair Digital is excited to introduce the enhanced Intelligent DVR (IDVR)! The DVR window has been expanded from a 2-hour limit to a full 14-day archive of your broadcasts, giving you greater flexibility and access to past content.

What's New:

  • 14-Day Broadcast Archive – Access recordings from the past two weeks, significantly extending the previous 2-hour window.
  • Off-Air & Ad Markers – Easily identify when a broadcast was off-air or when ad breaks occurred, helping you navigate content more efficiently.
  • Quick Date Navigation – A calendar feature allows you to instantly jump to any day within the 14-day archive for faster access to past broadcasts.

Step 1: Click on a broadcast clip

Step 2: The expanded timeline displays content from midnight of the previous day up to the current time, with a maximum 24-hour view.

Step 3: Use the DVR Date Search to quickly jump to a specific day within the 14-day archive. Off-air periods and ad breaks are clearly marked for easy reference.

Step 4: Clicking on a broadcast segment zooms in, revealing a detailed timeline view with thumbnails for precise navigation.

Step 5: Select the 24-hour button to return to the full 24-hour timeline view at any time.

Step 6: User can play the clip by clicking the play buttons or by pressing the "SPACE" key

Step 7: To set the In-Point of the clip either manually drag the In-Point, play the video and click the In-Point icon at the desired time, or use the hotkey 'I'

NOTE: There is a limitation with Http Live Streaming to four second segments. Setting clip points and then returning using the "jump to" points will set the current time to the closest of the four second segments. This is more noticeable with smaller length clips.

Step 8: To set the Out-Point of the clip either manually drag the Out-Point, play the video and click the Out-Point icon at the desired time, or use the hotkey 'O'

Step 9: Once a selection is made, give the clip a name

Step 10: To create the clip select the "clip" button or use the hotkey 'C'

User can make multiple clips from the same video and will show up under the "Clips" section.

After some time the video will display in the Media Library for future use. If the loading animation appears to be spinning for more than a minute or two, check the media library for completion.

NOTE: Instant Clip will clip the full clip in its entirety.

Step 11: When the clip is finished, select the "done" button
